New York City Bars

The NYC Bar Scene

New York City is home to several thousand bars. Which means it’s a tough scene for bar owners but great for picky bar patrons. If the word “bar” makes you think of the typical sticky, bare-bones watering hole, you haven’t really experienced the NYC bar scene in all its glory. From sports bars to grungy dive places to swanky hotel hangouts, the list of options seems endless – and in all fairness, it probably is.

The thing that makes New York City such a great place to down your sorrows and celebrate your happiness is the range of options within your walking shoes. There’s something for everyone, and even the most discerning palate will find a haven in the mayhem. Every few blocks boasts an inviting neighborhood bar where the staff is friendly, the drink prices are cheap, and the vibe is so casual it doesn’t take a second thought to walk in after work. If beer bargains and house specials aren’t your scene, you can move on to the upscale roof top bars where getting in is as much a victory as actually scoring a drink. Sip a martini while viewing the majestic Empire State building or the river. Forget you’re in a major metropolitan city and feel like you’re being taken to a magical forest where trees and tranquility reign supreme. When you’re tired of the pretention and high prices, whisk yourself away to a sports bar with plasma screens screaming from every corner and fanatic fans cheering on teams at every touchdown. From chic to grungy, New Yorkers do it seamlessly because it’s all right there and oh-so-accessible.

Those in the know realize that New York is the playland of players.
Dress up and strut around the Meatpacking District in your finest duds to see what (or more accurately, who) flocks your way. Flash the platinum credit card to get in and move your way up in line, and then drink your way to a fabulous night. If strolling about in couture clothes isn’t your thing, NY offers the option to settle into a comfy booth and just strike up conversation with your friends in a less-than-luxury lounge. The scene is more chill, more cheap, and more favorable for just hanging out in a place with great music and great door policy. The East Village and Lower East Side have tons of places that fit the bill without robbing the wallet.

New York is a paradise for people that love to party, and those that love to just play around. Every personality has a place, and every few blocks beckons to those in need of drink, food, dancing, or fun. The best part about the city is wandering through and discovering what you’re in the mood for – or if you already know, the decision on where to go gets even easier as you slip into your alternate personalities and select a destination made for your mood. It’s not always easy to pick a spot, but it’s never hard to find somewhere that meshes with your style.
